About Wallington
Wallington is part of the London Borough of Sutton and is located east of Carshalton. The name of the district probably originates from an early settlement of Saxons and probably Celts. Wallington has had a big medieval importance as an administrative area.
In the early 19th century there was nothing but a few cottages, an inn and a some houses. Older constructions like a paper mill, from the late 17th century, and Grange Lake remain intact. Wallington station is situated south of the village as the person who owned Carshalton Park estate forbade the establishing of a railway station on his land.
A few changes triggered the separation of Wallington with the parish Beddington in 1867- Gothic villas have been laid out on Manor Road in 1860 and Holy Trinity church was built based on a sponsorship. This followed the opening of Wallington high school for girls on Manor Road in the year of 1896.
